Pregnancy Calendar: Third Trimester
Overview: The final stretch! The baby's bigger, you're bigger ... just hang in there, you'll be changing dirty diapers in no time! Most women experience a nesting urge during third trimester, which makes sense as the time for your baby's birth approaches. You're probably scurrying around making a little nursery nest for your baby but don't forget to relax and let everyone throw you a party. I highly recommend a Mother Blessing and, of course, a Web Baby Shower!
Third Trimester Major Development Milestones:
Weeks 28 - 31: Bright-Eyed and Bushy Tailed
Here's looking at you baby! You can see sunlight and turn away from bright light. You would have a very good chance of survival if you were born prematurely, but we can still wait! You are about 15 inches long, weigh about 3-4 pounds and are gaining about a half pound per week.
Weeks 32 - 35: Shout It Out
Hello baby. Your wrinkled skin is smoothing out as you fatten up to get ready for birth. You are still covered in vernix and lanugo which will diminish as you get closer to being born. Your lungs are much stronger now and you weight about 4 - 7 pounds and are about 16 -18 inches long.
Weeks 36 - 39: Headin' Down
Ain't no stopping you now! Baby, your vernix and lanugo are disappearing as you reach full maturity. You've probably turned by now and your head is settling into your momma's pelvis, which she probably thinks has widen beyond all comprehension. You are about 19-21 inches long and weigh about 6-9 pounds. We are all eagerly anticipating your arrival!
Weeks 40+: Show Time!
Show time! Did you know there's only about a 5% chance you'll actually be born on your due date? Well, you just keep developing and come out when you're ready. We can't wait to meet you!

*Note: This calendar is based on the LMP (Last Menstrual Period) system of measuring the length of pregnancy as 40 weeks (±2 weeks) from the first day of the mother's last menstrual period. Subtract two weeks to get the fetus' approximate age in weeks. **Advice is from a total know-it-all mother of one who has no business giving advice to pregnant women, other than that she was once pregnant too. This calendar is provided for entertainment purposes only and should not even come close to replacing care from your prenatal health professional.
