Web Baby Shower Help: Accpetable Use Information

In order to provide a positive community where hosts, expecting parents and their guests can easily participate in Web Baby Shower activities, Web Baby Shower has established guidelines for posting messages and other information to this website. A language filter is also employed to help weed out any negativity before it starts. This help page is meant to assist Web Baby Shower users in understanding what the language filter is looking for and what types words may be triggering a "Please clean up your act" response. This help page is not intended to address all issues cover covered under "acceptable use" so please make sure you have also read the Terms of Service.

Because the guests of honor at Web Baby Shower are pregnant women, usually with raging hormones, the language filter is designed to help ensure that everyone remains positive and supportive of women who are about to give birth. Racial, ethnic and religious slurs, vulgar language, hateful messages and threats of violence are not allowed. In particular, the words "hate" and "kill" and their variations have caused some problems when former lovers have come across the Web Baby Showers of their old flames and for that reason most variations of the word "hate" and direct threats using the word "kill" have been banned. So, if you have made a remark such as "She hates green beans" it will get caught in the language filter and I suggest rephrasing to say "She strongly dislikes green beans." Similarly, if you are using the word "kill" in a colloquial manner as in "If you throw me a suprise baby shower, I'll kill you" it will also get caught by the language filter. It's a bit of an inconvenience when it comes to the colloquial uses of the words "hate" and "kill" but it helps prevent situations where people use these words in negative ways and I hope everyone will agree with me that Web Baby Shower is not a place for hate.

Because the subject matter at Web Baby Shower involves pregnancy, labor, birth and early parenting, you should be able to frankly and openly discuss reproductive issues as long as you are using the correct words for actions, anatomy and processes. Slang, slurs, insults and jibes relating to sexual reproduction are not allowed. If you are trying to post a message that is straightfoward and are still triggering the language filter, please contact me for support and include the message you are trying to submit. Because most Web Baby Shower participants feel that talking about sex should be allowed at Web Baby Shower, children under the age of 13 should not use Web Baby Shower. As stated in the Terms of Service, a parent or legal guardian should particpate on behalf of children under 13 years of age.

Of course, there will always be someone who will come along and find a way around the language filter (you've probably seen spammers do it a million times), so if there is a violation of the Acceptable Use policy we can address it in the following ways:

  • Hosts can remove any unwanted postings from their Guest Book, Birthday Bets or Games pages through the Host Control Panel. Please see the Guest Book Manager Help, Birthday Bets Help or Games Help for more information
  • Hosts can also report any removed postings as abusive and request that the individual's IP address be banned from Web Baby Shower.
  • Hosts can also choose a stricter Privacy Level or Password Protection via the Host Control Panel. Please see the Passwords and Privacy Help page for more informaton.
  • Anyone at any time can contact Web Baby Shower for assistance in keeping their Web Baby Shower a positive and supportive place for the expectant family.

If you have any further questions about the acceptable use at Web Baby Shower, please see the Terms of Service or contact Web Baby Shower directly.
