Information For Web Baby Shower Hosts


Games Description
When you host an online shower at Web Baby Shower, it comes with a set of five baby shower games for you to use. The games are played online at Web Baby Shower and Web Baby Shower keeps track of the scores in a High Scores section. You can also view any contact information your guests provide privately through the Host Control Panel.

The baby shower games include: Nursery Rhyme Match Up, Famous Mothers, Mothers of All Things, Baby Word Scramble and Animal Babies. All of the games are HTML based matching games. Playing them is essentially like submitting a web based form, so you and your guests do not have to have any plug ins or download any software to play.

You can choose to play all games at once or offer them one at a time. You can even customize the page introduction if you would like your guests to play each game by a certain date or if you have other ideas for using the games at your Web Baby Shower. If you would like to offer a prize, you can do so. When you are done playing games, you can choose to show just the high scores, or turn the page off entirely.

Adding Games To Your Web Baby Shower
When your Web Baby Shower is initially set up for you, the Games page is turned off to give you a chance to decide which games you would like to play and when. When you are ready to begin, simply log into your Host Control Panel and turn the Games page on and select the games you would like to play. You can also add your own instructions and offer a prize (see below for more info). Once the Games page is turned ON, a link called "Games" will appear in your Web Baby Shower's navigation bar (along with Guest Book, Live Chat, Photos, etc).

To Turn On Your Web Baby Shower Games Page:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Turn Games Page On & Select New Games To Play" and click "GO!"
  5. On the "Select Games" page that appears, you can choose the games you would like to play. You can play all five at once or select any number of them up to five. To select a game, click the "On" button next to the game name.
  6. Here, you can also customize the Games page introduction and/or offer a prize. If you don't want to do either of those things, just leave those fields blank.
  7. When you are done making your selections, click "Submit Changes" at the bottom of the form.
  8. Your Web Baby Shower will now have a Games page where your guests can play the game(s) you selected.


Customizing The Games Page Introduction / Instructions
If you have a particular order or way in which you would like your guests to play the games (or if you just don't like the way I worded the introduction) you can customize the Games page introduction / instructions to suit your needs. Please note that you will NOT be able to change the underlying way in which the games actually work but you can ask your Guests to make sure they've played a game by a certain date in order to win a prize, or something to that effect.

To Customize The Games Page Introduction:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Edit Game Instructions & Prize Information" and click "go"
  5. On the "Edit Introduction & Prize Info" form that appears, you can enter your special instructions and any prize information (see below).
  6. When you are done making your changes, click "Submit Changes"
  7. Note: If you wish to remove your customized introduction/instructions, simply delete your comments (leaving the text area blank) and click "Submit Changes"


Offering Prizes
It is up to you, the host, to decide if you would like to offer a prize for the game winners. Web Baby Shower does not provide or distribute any prizes, so it is entirely up to you if you would like to do so. Most Web Baby Shower hosts play the games "for the fun of it." However, if you would like to offer a prize or prizes, you can add that information to your Games page as follows.

To Offer A Prize:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Edit Game Instructions & Prize Information" and click "Go!"
  5. On the "Edit Introduction & Prize Info" form that appears, you can enter a description of the prize(s) you would like to offer.
  6. Note: If you wish to remove your prize description, simply delete your comments (leaving the text area blank) and click "Submit Changes"

Please note that it is up to you do purchase and deliver prizes to your guests.



Emailing Your Guests About The Games
Once you have your games set up and ready to go, let your guests know! You can send your guests an email each time you start a new game or just to remind them to come play the games that have been waiting for them.

To Email Your Guests:

  • From the Host Control Panel Games Manager:
    If you are already on the Games Manager, you can simply click the "Email Guests About Games" button under the "What Would You Like To Do?" choices and you will be taken to your Guest List Manager.

  • From your Web Baby Shower home page:
    1. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
    2. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Guest List Manager" icon, a blue circle with an ink bottle
  1. Once you are in the Guest List Manager and have added at least one guest to your Guest List (it can be yourself), you can Send A Message to your Guest List.
  2. Choose the subject "Come play baby shower games with us online" and a pre-written message that includes even your custom instructions and prize info will appear in the Message box.
  3. You can send this message using the Guest List Manager or you can copy and paste it into an email of your own and send it from your own email account.


Ending An Individual Game
If you decide that it is time to end one or more games and focus on others, you can turn individual games off. You can also turn off all the games and display only the "High Scores" when you and your guests are done playing the games.

To Turn Off Indivual Games

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Select New Games To Play / Turn Off Games That Have Been Played" and click "Go!"
  5. On the page that appears, there will be a list of the games. Any game that is currently being played will be highlighted in pink; any games that have been turned off will be in gray.
  6. To turn off a game, simply check the "Off" button next to the game name
  7. You can also make any edits to the customized introduction and/or prize info (or just leave it)
  8. Click "Submit Changes"


Viewing Guests' Contact Information
As your guests play the games, they will have an opportunity to submit their contact information in case they win a prize or you otherwise want to get in touch with them. To see your guests' contact information (that has been submitted with their game scores):

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Scores: View / Edit / Remove" and click "Go!"
  5. If there are any scores for your Web Baby Shower games, the next page will have a list of the games and scores for each game
  6. Please pay attention to which game scores you are looking at. To view scores for a different game, click the game name in the list at the top of the page.
  7. To see the contact information for a guest, simply click on the guest's nickname
  8. If they provided any contact information, it will appear on the next page; if their email address is not already on your Guest List, you can check the box to have it added automatically. You can click on their email address to send an email or call them at any phone number provided.
  9. When you are done:
    • If you made any changes, click "Submit" to save them (see below for more details)
    • To return to the list of scores without making any changes, click "Return"
    • To remove the score from your Web Baby Shower completely, click "Remove" (see below for more details)

Important Notes:
Please note that Web Baby Shower does not require guests to submit contact information in order to play a game; if a guest does not volunteer the information Web Baby Shower cannot provide any further assistance in contacting the guest.

Your guests' contact information is meant to be used strictly in regards to your Web Baby Shower. Please do not abuse your guests' trust in sharing this information with you.



Editing Score Nicknames
If you would like to edit one of your guests' score nicknames (or they would like you to do it for them) you can make changes using the Games Manager. Please note that you cannot edit the actual game score.

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Scores: View / Edit / Remove" and click "Go!"
  5. If there are any scores for your Web Baby Shower games, the next page will have a list of the games and scores for each game
  6. Please pay attention to which game scores you are looking at. To view scores for a different game, click the game name in the list at the top of the page.
  7. To edit a score nickname, simply click on the nickname
  8. On the form that appears, make changes to the nickname and click Submit
  9. If they provided any contact information, it will appear on the next page; if their email address is not already on your Guest List, you can check the box to have it added automatically.
  10. When you are done:
    • If you made any changes, click "Submit" to save them
    • To return to the list of scores without making any changes, click "Return"
    • To remove the score from your Web Baby Shower completely, click "Remove" (see below for more details)



Removing Unwanted Scores & Reporting Abuse
If your guests submit any scores that you would like to remove (for them), you can do so using the Games Manager. Also, if an uninvited or abusive guest comes along, you can also remove their scores and report the abuse to Web Baby Shower as follows:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Scores: View / Edit / Remove" and click "Go!"
  5. If there are any scores for your Web Baby Shower games, the next page will have a list of the games and scores for each game
  6. Please pay attention to which game scores you are looking at. To view scores for a different game, click the game name in the list at the top of the page.
  7. To remove a score or multiple scores, check the box in the "Remove" column next to the score(s) you would like to remove.
  8. Click "Remove"
  9. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to remove the scores. At this point, you also have the option to report any abuse. Check "Ban" next to any scores you also wish to report as abusive. Uncheck "remove" next to any scores you do not wish to remove.
  10. Click "Confirm Removal"

Note: Any removed scores that are reported as abusive will be investigated by the Web Baby Shower moderator. Please use this feature carefully and responsibly.



Password Protection For Your Games
The password protection that you choose for your entire Web Baby Shower will apply to your games page. If you wish to use password protection, you can choose to password protect your Web Baby Shower completely, or allow viewing access to anyone but limit participation in the games, guest book, etc to guests on the guest list or with a password. Turning Off Entire Games Page
If you no longer wish to play games with your guests and do not wish to have the High Scores displayed, you can turn off the Games page. The game scores data and any associated contact information your guests submitted will still be available to you via the Games Manager (see above) until your Web Baby Shower ends.

To Turn Off Your Web Baby Shower Games Page Entirely:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page (find)
  2. Click the "host control panel" link near the bottom of the page
  3. Once you have logged into the Host Control Panel, click the "Games Manager" icon, a green circle with two puzzle pieces
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" check "Turn Entire Games Page Off" and click "Go!"
  5. You will be asked to confirm that you wish to turn off the entire games page and not just individual games (see above). Click the "Confirm ..." button to confirm.


Baby Shower Game Ideas For Your Live Chat
If you are hosting a live chat and wish to add some organized entertainment, I have put together some suggestions for games to play in your Web Baby Shower chat room. At this time there is not an automated way to play and score games in the Web Baby Shower chat room so you can use my suggestions or you are welcome to invent your own way of playing and scoring games in the chat room (please do share any new ideas you come up with!). The chat room is a great place to play open-ended games so be creative!

Game ideas for the chat room include:

  • "TV Families": exact questions and answers are provided for in your Host Control Panel
  • "Mommy Or Daddy?": quiz question ideas provided; you can use them or make up your set that is fun & unique for your expecting parents. You have to get the answers from the expecting couple
  • "Baby Songs": Quiz format and possible answers provided; this is an open-ended game

To access the live chat games and ideas:

  1. Log into your Host Control Panel
  2. Click the Games Manager icon
  3. Choose "Get Live Chat Game Ideas"
  4. Click "Go!"

You can also access the live chat games from the Host Control Panel Chat Scheduler; simply click "Chat Game Ideas" in the Chat Scheduler Host Control Panel navigation bar.

To use the games during your live chat:

  • Please read through all of the chat room game ideas well in advance of your live chat. Some games are open-ended and require you to gather information from the expecting parents in order to determine the answers.
  • To play the game, have the questions and answers handy in whichever format you are most comfortable with and depending on the type of game:
    • Printed on a sheet of paper for you to type into the chat room manually
    • Copy & pasted into a text file (NotePad) or word processing file (Word) where you can add the customized answers from your expecting parents
  • To score each game, have a piece of paper and pencil/pen ready. When you are ready to begin a game, write down the names (or chat nicknames) of your guests in a list.
  • To begin play, post the first question to your chat room
  • The first person to answer correctly gets a tick mark next to her name.
  • Post each question in turn until all questions have been answered. If any of the questions stump your guests, you can simply move on to the next one.
  • The person with the most tick marks at the end of the game wins!
  • It is up to you to decide if you would like to offer prizes, to provide the prizes and deliver them to your guests
  • Good luck and have fun!


Playing Baby Shower Games At Web Baby Shower

System Requirements
Web Baby Shower's online baby shower games are HTML based so the only system requirements are a computer with Internet access and your favorite web browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Netscape, etc).

For full enjoyment of the Web Baby Shower website and games:

  • Please add webbabyshower.com as a trusted site to your computer's security systems (firewall, anti-virus, web browser security settings) so that your computer will allow you to play the games (by submitting a form)
  • Allow cookies from webbabyshower.com (more info)


How To Play
Playing the baby shower games is easy! Just click on "Games" in the navigation bar of your Web Baby Shower to get to the games page (if there is not a link to the Games then it means your host has not set up the games yet, or that she has turned them off). Then, enter your name or a "screen name" for yourself, choose the game you want to play. If the host has password protected the games, you will need to enter the password or your email address on the guest as well. Then click "Go!". Most of the games are matching or fill-in the blank games, so you just have to choose the correct answer from the drop-down list of answers. You will be scored for accuracy and time. Good luck!

How Web Baby Shower Uses Your Information
The name or screen name you enter when you play a game, along with your score (% correct, time and date) will be displayed in the "High Scores" section of the game page of Web Baby Shower where you play the game. Please pick a name you feel comfortable displaying on the web, but also make sure your host can identify who you are from it! Once you complete a game, you will have the opporutnity to submit your full name or email address or phone number so that the host can contact you should you win a prize. Submitting this information is completely optional; it will be kept private and only accessible by the host(s) of that Web Baby Shower. If you do not submit your contact info, the only risk is that if you win and the host does not know how to get in touch with you, you may forfeit any prize she was offering.

The host may use any information you submit to contact you regarding the general progress of the Web Baby Shower and the expecting family. The host may not use your information for any non-personal purposes, so if you suspect abuse, please contact Web Baby Shower.

Web Baby Shower will keep your game score and any contact information you submit on file until one month after the Web Baby Shower ends.

Web Baby Shower will not sell, rent or share your information with any third parties (except with the host(s)) without your permission, or as required to operate the site, or as required by law. Please see the Terms of Service for complete privacy information.



Removing or Editing A "Mistake"
If you make a mistake while playing a game at Web Baby Shower, you can always start over again. Please try to only re-play the games when you make an "honest" mistake. You can ask your Web Baby Shower host to edit or remove any erroneous or duplicate scores through the Host Control Panel for you. Because Web Baby Shower does not require every guest to have an account and password, only the host can make changes to the game scores and other guest data.



Viewing High Scores
To view the High Scores, simply click the "High Scores" link on the Web Baby Shower Games page. Or, if the games have ended, you can view the High Scores right on the Games page. Please make sure your web browser (eg: Internet Explorer) allows cookies from webbabyshower.com (more info) so that you can access and play the games.
