Web Baby Shower Help: Gift Registry Links

This help page is designed to help you understand how linking from your Web Baby Shower to online registries works. The first section explains the policies behind linking to stores and where your link will take you. The second section is a FAQ which provides answers to commonly asked questions about linking to gift registries from your Web Baby Shower. I highly encourage you to read both sections.

Gift Registry Link Policies & Guidelines

First, please make sure you have read the Web Baby Shower Terms of Service section on linking to gift registries. Linking to gift registries provides an income opportunity for Web Baby Shower so it is important that it get done right to ensure this revenue stream is not interrupted. Linking to gift registries also involves linking to other sites so it needs my personal approval to ensure the integrity of the Web Baby Shower service and to ensure that the links are set up properly.

Online Gift Registries You Can Link To From Your Web Baby Shower

In general, I will link to just about any online store where the expecting parents are registered. However, I do reserve the right to refuse to link to any online registry for any reason. In particular, I will not link to any "meta registry" websites that list items from several different in-store registries (examples include but are not limited to: myregistry.com, wishlist.com, etc). Most of these meta registry sites interfere with the Web Baby Shower affiliate income program and I therefore only link to the online store website where the registry exists. In addition, if you provide a URL for a registry that is not operational, I reserve the right to reject that as well.



Gift Registry Links "Landing Pages"

Whenever possible, I will link directly to the expecting parents' registry at Web Baby Shower affiliated online stores. However, some affiliate programs, Babies R Us, Target and WalMart in particular, restrict where exactly on their website I can link to and in those cases I must link either to their registry search page, baby section or home page. For stores with whom I do not have an affiliate relationship, I link to the registry search page or their home page, depending on their website technology and their linking policies.

The following stores have affiliate programs where Web Baby Shower can link directly to the expecting parents' regsitry and we highly recommend registering with them. Please note that this is NOT a complete list of stores you can include on your registry page (such a list is not feasible since Web Baby Shower allows you to link to just about any online store where the parents want to register).

*Please keep in mind that the above list IS NOT a complete list of stores you can include on your registry page (such a list is not feasible since I allow you to link to just about any online store where the parents want to register). Gift Registry Links Privacy Policy

In order to locate the expecting parents' registry on the above sites it may be necessasy for me to ask for their email address associated with the registry, their city & state, and/or the registry number. Please note that when such information is requested it will be used ONLY to look up the registry and link to it; the information will not be displayed on your Web Baby Shower Gift Registries page or used for any other purpose. In addition, when I do attempt to link directly to the expecting parents' registry at these stores, PLEASE check that the link lands on the correct registry and inform me if it is not correct.

Please note that Web Baby Shower cannot control the information displayed on the actual gift registry. Any such concerns should be taken up with the store/website where the parents have registered.

If you choose to include address/shipping information on your Gift Registries page at Web Baby Shower (see "Can I add instructions or comments to my Gift Registries page?" below), I ask that you do so with caution and with the expecting parent(s)' permission. The web is not always a safe place to display personal contact information and I actually discourage hosts from adding such information to their Web Baby Showers.



Other Policies and Guidelines

Please do not attempt to use the "Other Registry" or "Gift Giving Comments" features to circumvent these policies and guidelines. I will reject any "other" link that is already in the check-off list. Excessive misuse or abuse of the "other" registry or "gift giving comments" is grounds for terminating your Web Baby Shower services without refund. Please make sure you have read the Terms of Service regarding online registry links. This list of guidelines and policies is not meant to be exhaustive and is subject to change at any time.



Broken Registry Links

If you notice a registry link is not working, please inform me. I try to check them periodically but stores have an annoying tendency to change their websites without notifying me of the change ; )

Where do the gift registry links appear?

When your Web Baby Shower is intially set up, the Gift Registries page is turned off.* Once you log into the Host Control Panel and add registry links to it (see below) or add "Gift Giving Comments" (see below), a "Gift Registries Link" will appear in your Web Baby Shower navigation bar and the links and/or "Gift Giving Comments" will appear on the Gift Registries Page.

*The Gift Registries page is initially turned off for a couple reasons. One, to avoid the confusion of including a page that has no content (until you add the links to it) and two, because some hosts and expecting parents prefer to not ask for gifts and prefer that the page remain turned off.



What if we do not have any gift registries but want to share gift ideas with our guests?

If you do not have any gift registries and only want to ask for "diapers and wipes" or for gift cards, or whatever suits your needs, you can add just "Gift Giving Comments" to your Gift Registries page. See "Can I add instructions or comments to my Gift Registries page" below. Please note that if you only have "Gift Giving Comments" with no gift registry links, the page will be called "Gift Ideas."



How can I add a link to my online registries?

To add new links to in-store gift registries:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page
  2. Log into your Host Control Panel
  3. Click "Gift Registry Links Manager" (gift icon)
  4. Under "What would you like to do?" choose "Add New Gift Registry Store Links"
  5. Click "Go!"
  6. Here you will see a list of a list of U.S. stores whose registries are most popular with expecting parents, that you have not already added to your Web Baby Shower Gift Registry page.
  7. Please read the instructions and information on this page.
  8. To add a new registry to your Web Baby Shower Gift Registries page, simply check the box next to the store name where the parents are registered and click "Submit". To avoid confusion for your guests, please do not submit stores where the parents are not registered yet.
  9. If the expecting parents are registered at an online store that is not listed, simply check the "Other Registry" box and enter the name of the store and its URL in the "Other Registry" section. Please check the list carefully before submitting an "other" registry to avoid duplication. You can enter additional "Other" registries one at a time.
  10. ALL "OTHER" GIFT REGISTRY LINKS REQUIRE MY PERSONAL APPROVAL. IT MAY TAKE ME 1 - 2 BUSINESS DAYS BEFORE APPROVING "OTHER" GIFT REGISTRY LINKS AND I APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING. This means that your "other" gift registry links will not appear immediately on your Web Baby Shower gift registry page. You need to wait for me to approve your "other" gift registry links and set up any direct registry links where possible (see above).


How do I make changes to my gift registry links?

You can make changes to any "other" registry links and remove any standardized links as follows*:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page
  2. Log into your Host Control Panel
  3. Click "Gift Registry Links Manager" (gift icon)
  4. Under "What would you like to do?" choose "Edit or Remove Gift Registry Store Links"
  5. Click "Go!"
  6. Please make sure you read the instructions and important information at the top of the page
  7. The page will be divided into two sections:
    The top section will show all the standardized store links that you have already added to your Web Baby Shower.
    • You can remove any of these links from your Web Baby Shower by checking the "Turn Off/Remove" box next to the store name

    The bottom section will show any "Other" links you have added to your Web Baby Shower
    • You can make any necessary edits to the store names and/or link URLs, keeping in mind that your edits will be subject to Web Baby Shower approval.
    • To submit any edits, make sure you check the "Check here if you make EDITS" radio button.
    • To remove the "Other" link entirely, check the "Check here to REMOVE" button
  8. When you are done making your edits / marking registry links to be removed, click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the page

*PLEASE NOTE: If a link to a registry at any of the following stores is not going to the correct registry, please contact me immediately. I need to make changes to the registry links to these stores for you.

  • Amazon.com Baby Registry (US)
  • Amazon.com Wish List (US)

Any information to help me locate the correct registry would be very helpful; this includes the registry number, URL of the registry, expecting parents' city & state, expecting parents' email address associated with the registry (see Privacy Policy above.



How do I remove a gift registry link?

What does "Pending" mean?

Because it involves linking to another website that Web Baby Shower may or may not already have a linking agreement with, all "Other" gift registry links must be personally approved by me. All links in the "Other Gift Registry Store Links" section on the "Edit or Remove Links To In-Store Gift Registries" page will be marked as "approved" or "pending" to indicate which ones I have approved and which ones are awaiting Web Baby Shower approval. It can take me up to 2 business days to approve your registries and I appreciate your patience. For more information, please see "Gift Registry Link Policies & Guidelines" above.

You can make edits to or even delete any "pending" Other registries if needed or desired. "How do I make changes to my gift registry links?" above.



How do I approve or reject the direct links Web Baby Shower has set up for me?

At this time, the following stores allow Web Baby Shower to link directly to individual gift registries: Amazon.com Baby Registry (US) and Amazon.com Wish List (US). When you add a link to one of these stores (see above), Web Baby Shower will search for your registry and place a link for your approval in the Gift Registry Links Manager and send you an email asking you to review the links and approve them. To approve or reject a direct link to your registry:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page
  2. Log into your Host Control Panel
  3. Click "Gift Registry Links Manager" (gift icon)
  4. Under "What Would You Like To Do?" Click "Approve direct links to ..." and click Go!
  5. On the next page, please click on the link to visit the suggested registry. The registry will open in a new window (please make sure your web browser has javascript enabled and has webbabyshower.com listed as a trusted website).
  6. View the registry and determine whether it is the correct registry
  7. Close the pop-up window to return to the Gift Registry Links Manager
    • If Web Baby Shower has chosen the correct registry, click "Approve". The link on your Web Baby Shower Gift Registry page will be updated to go directly to the registry
    • If it is not the correct registry, click "Reject". You will be asked to provide additional information which will be sent to Web Baby Shower Customer Support to help us find the correct link (this step is optional).
    • If you are not sure if it is the correct registry, you can click "Do This Later" to return to the main menu.

  9. When you are done you will be returned to the main menu; or you can click "Do This Later" to return to the main menu immediately

If Web Baby Shower was unable to find the correct registry at: Amazon.com Baby Registry (US) and Amazon.com Wish List (US), you can help us find it by emailing us the following information:

  • Your Name & email address
  • The name(s) of the expecting parent(s)
  • The store name (keeping in mind this applies only to: Amazon.com Baby Registry (US) and Amazon.com Wish List (US))
  • Any information to help us find the correct registry including:
    • registry number
    • URL Link of the registry
    • any screen name or alternate name being used on the registry
    • expecting parents' city & state
    • expecting parents' email address associated with the registry

Web Baby Shower will use the above information to locate the correct registry and place the link for your approval in your Host Control Panel > Gift Registry Links Manager, where you can follow the above steps again to approve or reject it.

While we are waiting for you to approve the direct registry link, the link on your Web Baby Shower Gift Registries page will go to the store's Registry Search page or Home Page. Web Baby Shower will not link directly to any registries that have not been approved by the host.



Can I add instructions or comments to my Gift Registries page?

You sure can! Whether or not you have any registries, you can add "Gift Giving Comments" to help your guests shop as follows:

  1. Go to your Web Baby Shower home page
  2. Log into your Host Control Panel
  3. Click "Gift Registry Links Manager" (gift icon)
  4. Under "What would you like to do?" choose "Add, Edit or Remove Special Gift Giving Instructions"
  5. Click "Go!"
  6. In the "Add, Edit or Remove Special Gift Giving Instructions" text area you can add up to 1500 character's worth of hints
  7. You can return here to make any edits to your Gift Giving Instructions at any time
  8. To remove your Gift Giving Instructions, check the"Check here if you would like to remove the above message completely"
  9. When you are done adding or editing your comments, click "Submit Comments".

Note: If you choose to include address/shipping information in "Gift Giving Comments", I ask that you do so with caution and with the expecting parent(s)' permission. While many steps are taken to keep your Web Baby Shower private, the web is not always a safe place to display personal contact information and I actually discourage hosts from adding such information to their Web Baby Showers.



I submitted my registries but they do not appear on my Gift Registries page -- why not?

There are two possible explanations:

  1. Please make sure you have read this Help & FAQ thoroughly. All "Other" Gift Registry links must be approved by me before they will appear on your Web Baby Shower Gift Registries page. It may take up to 2 business days for me to approve your links and I appreciate your patience.

  2. Your browser's security settings or your anti-virus security settings may be too high and are blocking some links from even appearing on your Gift Registries page.

    In order to help diagnose this problem, I have added in some "safe guards". ALL of your approved registries will appear in plain text in the introductory paragraph on your Gift Registries page. They will also appear in the "Note" at the bottom of the page explaining about browser security blocking links at the bottom of the page. If you can see all of your approved registries mentioned in those paragraphs, but all or some of your registries are not appearing in the list of registry links, then then it probably is because your browser or anti-virus software is blocking the links from you.

    In this case you need to consult your browser's Help section or your anti-virus software's Help section on adding webbabyshower.com as a trusted website in your web browser, anti-virus and firewall software programs.
