Web Baby Shower Help: Privacy and Password Protection
Web Baby Shower offers several different levels and types of privacy and password protection to help you find the combination that you are comfortable with. There are three different ways to protect your Web Baby Shower from outside intrusions and you are welcome to use any combination of them.
Topics:
Online Security Basis
All Web Baby Showers are private. Visitors can only find your Web Baby Shower by direct invitation from you with your customized URL or by searching for it here at Web Baby Shower. In addition, all participation at Web Baby Shower is subject to Web Baby Shower approval. Web Baby Shower collects the IP addresses of anyone who participates in your Web Baby Shower (Guest Book, Birthday Bets, Games, Chat and so forth). Either Web Baby Shower or the host can remove any unwanted participation from the Guest Book, Birthday Bets, Games etc. For further security, hosts can report abusive / unwanted activity in their Web Baby Showers and Web Baby Shower can ban IP addresses from participating in any Web Baby Shower (if you need to report abuse in your Web Baby Shower, please see the Guest Book Manager, Games Manager or Birthday Bets Help Pages for more info).
In general, these security precautions are enough to ensure that you and your guests have a lovely time at Web Baby Shower, however, if you feel that you need more privacy protection, you can add more.
General Recommendation:
If you and your guests are actively using your Web Baby Shower, I usually recommend that you do not use any further privacy or password protection in order to make sure that everyone can easily find and access your shower.
However, if participation in your Web Baby Shower has slowed down, or if there are other reasons you feel your shower needs more privacy you can add privacy and/or password protection to your shower. You can change the privacy and password settings at any time -- just don't forget to keep your guests informed of any changes that affect them.
All changes to your privacy and password settings can be made through the Host Control Panel on the Privacy & Passwords page (green Key icon).
Privacy Protection For Your Web Baby Shower
Before adding a password, the first thing I recommend is to increase the Privacy setting for your Web Baby Shower. In order to help your guests find your Web Baby Shower, it comes with a Privacy Setting of Medium. To change it, please log into your Host Control Panel and go to the Privacy & Password Protection page. For the best protection, please choose a privacy level for your Web Baby Shower as soon as possible.
Privacy Setting: Medium
Your Web Baby Shower will appear in search results here at Web Baby Shower. Your guests will be able to find your shower by the direct, customized URL on your invitations or when they search for it here at Web Baby Shower. It is highly unlikely that search engines or other outsideres would be able to find your Web Baby Shower and index it / access it. This setting is the default for all Web Baby Showers.
Privacy Setting: High
Your Web Baby Shower will NOT appear in search results here at Web Baby Shower. The only way your guests will be able to find your Web Baby Shower is through a direct invitation from you with the URL. If they lose the URL, they will not be able to find your shower without contacting you again. I would recommend using a privacy setting of High instead of a password; however, password protection is available if desired.
Password Protection For Your Web Baby Shower
Types of Passwords
If you wish to use a password for your Web Baby Shower, there are two levels of password protection and two types of passwords available at Web Baby Shower. All Web Baby Shower start with no password protection; it must be set up by the host through the Host Control Panel. If you are going to use a password, I recommend establishing password protection as soon as your Web Baby Shower starts.
LEVEL | Description |
| FULL |
Any access to your Web Baby Shower requires a password or an email address on your Guest List |
| MESSAGE BOARD |
Anyone can view the shower but a password or email address on your Guest List is needed to sign the guest book, join a chat, play games, place a Birthday Bet or otherwise participate in your Web Baby Shower. |
| NONE |
This will remove password protection from your Web Baby Shower so that anyone can view it and participate.
Note: This is the default setting and does not need to be chosen; it is available so that you can remove any password protection you've already established. |
| |
TYPE | Description |
| PASSWORD |
Guests must use a password that you choose to either access the online shower and/or participate in your Web Baby Shower.
This option is easy for you to set up, but requires your guests to keep track of the password. |
| GUESTS |
Only those with email addresses on your guest list can access the online shower and/or participate in your Web Baby Shower
You must be using the Guest List Manager and only email addresses on your Guest List will be allowed to post messages, so this option is more work to set up for you. However, it makes it easier for your guests as they don't have to remember a password. If you are using the Guest List Manager anyway and also want to use password protection, this option is recommended for you. Note: Web Baby Shower does not share guest email addresses with any third parties. Email addresses are collected solely to invite your guests and verify their identity. |
Missing or Forgotten Password
Both you and your guests will be able to request access to your password protected shower. If a guest requests the password or to be added to your guest list, an email for your approval will be sent first. Once you have approved the guest, Web Baby Shower will automatically send them an email with instructions for accessing your shower. If you forget your password, you can request it to be emailed to you.
Viewing Privacy & Password Settings
You can check the status of your password settings from your Host Control Panel under "Your Web Baby Shower Details". To access your Host Control Panel, click "host control panel" from your Web Baby Shower.
Adding or Changing Privacy and Password Protection for your Web Baby Shower
To add or change your privacy and password protection settings, log into your Host Control Panel and click the Privacy and Passwords icon. Choose one of the following under "What Would You Like To Do":
- Set the Privacy Level for your Web Baby Shower
- Add / Remove Password Protection for your Web Baby Shower
- Add / Remove Password Protection for Host Control Panel Login
... and click "Go!". From there, follow the instructions to add or update your Privacy and Password Protection.
Password Protection For Your Host Control Panel
It is always necessary to provide the host email address on file with Web Baby Shower in order to access the Host Control Panel. This is meant to keep out any unwanted Internet visitors but also allow the expecting parents and/or guests to help you manage your Web Baby Shower. However, if you feel that your guests should also be kept out of your Host Control Panel, you can add password protection to it.
Please note that if you feel like you need assistance from the expecting parents and/or your guests to manage your Web Baby Shower, I recommend that you not use Host Control Panel password protection and simply allow your assistants to log in with your email address on file with Web Baby Shower.
For more information about establishing, changing or removing a password for your Host Control Panel, please see the Host Account Information Help page.
